For nearly six decades, the Kia Forum in Inglewood has stood as one of Southern California’s most iconic music venues, earning a reputation as a stage where generations of legendary artists have left their mark. Originally opened on December 30, 1967, as The Forum, the circular arena was designed by architect Charles Luckman and initially served as the home of the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Kings. While sports helped establish its early identity, music quickly became an equally important part of the venue’s legacy. The first major concert at the arena was performed by Aretha Franklin in 1968, setting the tone for what would become one of the most celebrated concert halls in the country.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, The Forum became a must-play destination for the biggest names in music. Artists such as Led Zeppelin, Queen, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, KISS, Eagles, Genesis, Van Halen, Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, and Bob Dylan all performed within its walls, helping cement its status as a landmark in rock and popular music history. The venue’s distinctive circular design created an intimate atmosphere despite its arena size, a feature that many artists praised for its unique acoustics.

After the Lakers and Kings departed for downtown Los Angeles in 1999, the future of The Forum became uncertain. However, a major renovation beginning in 2012 transformed the aging arena into a world-class concert venue dedicated almost exclusively to music. The renovation upgraded the sound system, redesigned backstage areas for performers, and enhanced the fan experience while preserving the building’s historic character. The venue reopened in 2014 with six sold-out Eagles concerts, marking the beginning of a new era.

Since its rebirth, the Kia Forum has hosted many of the biggest touring acts in the world, including Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, Drake, Bad Bunny, The Weeknd, MANÁ, Jennifer Lopez, and Tame Impala. The venue has consistently ranked among the highest-grossing arenas globally and was named Pollstar’s Arena of the Decade for the 2010s, further solidifying its place in the live entertainment industry.

Today, the Kia Forum remains one of the premier music destinations in the United States. From classic rock legends to modern superstars, the arena continues to host unforgettable performances while honoring a history that stretches back to the golden age of live music. More than just a venue, the Forum has become a cultural landmark where the story of popular music in Los Angeles continues to be written with every sold-out show.
